May Fashions in Woman's Own

From Woman's Own, May 1st 1915.

[The new fashion for full skirts, and shorter than the narrow skirts previously worn, had evidently percolated through to the penny weeklies.  (Just what you should wear for winding a skein of yarn, to knit socks for soldiers.)  This example is evidently aiming for a Puritan look.]

  1. Reminds me of the Pilgrim style.

    1. Same thing as Puritan style, I guess - they weren't pilgrims in Britain

  2. She's making a bit of a mess of winding that wool, though! We used to use a chair if we couldn't find any free or willing arms, but we didn't do it quite like that.

    1. No, she won't get anywhere having the ball of wool on the floor. I think she's more concerned about showing off her dress than actually winding the wool. Or she's done most of it and just feels tired?
